Shin Ultraman Flies Into Malaysian Theaters October 2022

In a YouTube upload by Malaysian film distributor GSC (Golden Screen Cinemas), Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi’s Shin Ultraman was announced for an October 2022 theatrical release in Malaysia.

Malaysian film distributor, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), uploaded a trailer on August 11th to announce Shin Ultraman‘s localized theatrical release in Malaysia. The news follows Tsuburaya’s recent confirmation that an expanded international release for the film is on the way.

Shin Ultraman is a feature film that reimagines the original Eiji Tsuburaya Ultraman series from 1966. When kaiju begin appearing in Japan and the country relies on the newly formed SSSP to take them on using science, the appearance of a silver giant from outer space alters the course of Earth’s politics and drastically changes the way kaiju threats are handled. It’s up to Shinji Kaminaga to transform into this Ultraman when Earth is in danger to protect its civilization while hiding his secret identity.

After an international premiere at Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Neuchatel, Switzerland, Shin Ultraman made its North American debut in July at Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal, Canada. This was followed by a US premiere at the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) that same month. Team TokuNet staff writers Brody Salzman and Ryan Firestine attended the July 23rd NYAFF premiere screening where director Higuchi and co-producer Tomoya Nishino attended to witness fan reactions and answer a handful of audience questions after the film.

During the Q&A segment, the audience was eager to know if there would be a wider international release. In response to this question, director Higuchi merely urged fans to post about it on social media. This announcement is the first release date given for the wider international release since the confirmation that Shin Ultraman would be coming to 37 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. The film will also be released across North America, South America, and Europe, though the specifics have not been revealed as of this writing.

Malaysian tokusatsu fans will be able to watch Shin Ultraman in cinemas starting October 6th, 2022.
