Ultraman: Rising Trailer and Cast Revealed!

New details were revealed for the upcoming film Ultraman: Rising during Netflix’s Geeked Week, including the film’s first trailer.

New details for the upcoming animated Ultraman film co-produced by Tsuburaya Productions and Netflix. Chief among them was the film’s very first teaser trailer. The new teaser, shown during the Netflix “Geeked Week,” was soon followed by cast announcements.

Ultraman: Rising‘s voice cast includes Christoper Sean,  as Ken Sato, the film’s protagonist and Ultraman’s host. Mr. Sean is known for his work in television for shows such as Netflix-distributed You, the leading role in Disney’s animated Star Wars: Resistance show, and various video games. Alongside him is Gedde Watanabe as Professor Sato, presumably the father of Ken. Watanabe is a Japanese-American actor who had his breakout in the 1984 American comedy film Sixteen Candles, and would go on to appear in Gremlins 2: The New Batch, and Disney’s Mulan (1998). Tamlyn Tomita, known for her appearance as Kumiko in The Karate Kid series) will be playing Emiko Sato. Meanwhile Keone Young from Men in Black 3 and Star Wars Rebels voices Dr. Onda and Julia Harriman will have her acting debut as Ami.

Alongside the English cast announcements, Tsuburaya Productions also revealed that Japanese actor Yuki Yamada would be playing Ken Sato in Ultraman: Rising‘s Japanese dub. Yuki Yamada is most known to Tokusatsu fans for his debut role as Joe Gibken (Gokai Blue) from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. He has most recently appeared in Takashi Yamazaki’s Godzilla Minus One. With the announcement came this comment from Mr. Yamada:

I never thought that I would become Ultraman, and as a person who debuted from a hero series, I have many feelings running through me.

I am also very happy to be able to work with the ILM production team, which I’ve always wished to do.

I want to transform with all my might and let the world know about this film.

In addition to this week’s announcements, it’s also been confirmed that Ultraman: Rising directors Shannon Tindle and John Aoshima, as well as Yuki Yamada will be attending Tsuburaya Convention 2023 on the 25th and 26th of November. During Tsuburaya Convention, Bandai will also be unveiling the prototypes for toys based on the film.

Ultraman: Rising is slated for a worldwide release on Netflix in 2024.
