The two Ultraman alumni talk attended a talk event at the festival.
Susume Kurobe and Hiroko Sakurai appeared recently at the Tokyo International Film Festival in a talk event titled “The Birth of Ultra Monsters from Ultra Q to Ultraman.” During the event, Ultraman appeared and had a battle with alien Baltan and Zetton, with Kurobe performing the Ultraman transformation pose to the crowd beforehand. Kurobe and Sakurai, who are known for their roles as Hayata and Akiko, respectively, from Ultraman, then proceeded to talk about behind-the-scenes details of the shooting of their series.
Kurobe in particular described a story wherein he did most of his Ultraman acting without being in the same set as the monsters he was fighting, so when he first saw the monsters and special effects, he gasped in surprise and had to reshoot the scene.
At the end of the talk, Kurobe, who turned 80 this past October, promised to come again in 10 years, saying,
As long as the Ultraman name remains and there are fans, we will return! See you in ten years!
if we come then, we will need a cane and wheelchair and talk to you while we sleep!
