New Ultraman Series Officially Announced

Tsuburaya announces the next series in the Ultraman franchise: Ultraman R/B.

This will be the first Ultra series to feature two titular protagonist heroes. Katsumi Minato and his younger brother, Isami, find the R/B Gyro and R/B Crystal, which allows them to transform into Ultramen. The series promises a combination of tokusatsu action and drama that focuses on their brotherly bond as they take on many powerful enemies.

Yuya Hirata plays the role of Katsumi Minato (Ultraman Rosso), the older brother who works at his dad’s clothing store. Hirata was previously in 2016’s Haunted Campus and 2017’s The Werewolf Game: Lovers. He had this to say about the show:

“Ultraman R/B” is a new aggressive piece. The new series are full of “non Ultraman-like features” in a good sense, while following the good aspects of the historical ULTRAMAN Series.

Ryosuke Koike plays the role of Isami Minato (Ultraman Blu), the younger brother who is also a college student. Koike was previously in 2015’s Sunflower on the Hill and 2016’s Les Neuf Fenetres. He had this to say about the show:

“Ultraman” teaches children all sorts of feelings and makes a great influence on them. I would like to play Isami Minato with great enthusiasm and take the responsibility of acting such an influencing role. I would love for many people to enjoy “Ultraman R/B”!

There are 25 planned episodes, with Masayoshi Takesue as the director and writing by Takao Nakano, Junki Takegami, and Satoshi Ito. The series will premiere on Tokyo TV at 9:00 AM on July 7th 2018.

Satoshi Ito? I thought he died in 2009.

Unless it’s someone writing under a pen name…..
