Kamen Rider Drive’s Mackenyu Cast in Live-Action Knights of the Zodiac Movie

Kamen Rider Drive star Mackenyu is to star in Toei and Sony Pictures’ live-action adaptation of Knights of the Zodiac.


On September 21st, The Hollywood Reporter revealed the main cast of Toei and Sony Pictures’ live-action adaptation of the Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac franchise. Leading the cast is Mackenyu, son of the highly acclaimed actor and martial artist Sonny Chiba. Mackenyu has starred in various Japanese films and television including Kamen Rider Drive: Surprise Future (as Eiji Tomari), the live-action JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable Chapter I (Okuyasu Nijimura), and made his Hollywood debut in a supporting role for Pacific Rim: Uprising (Cadet Ryoichi).

In this origin story film, Mackenyu will play Seiya, a street orphan that will conquer the ancient Greek Pegasus armor, and find his place in a fantastical battle that will decide the fate of his co-star Madison Iseman’s character. The young goddess Sienna. Alongside them, Sean Bean, Famke Janssen, Nick Stahl, Diego Tinoco, and Mark Dacascos have also been cast.

Directing the film adaptation of Masami Kurumada’s manga and anime series is Tomasz Baginski, executive producer of The Witcher. Meanwhile, the current script is credited to Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken. Andy Cheng, fight coordinator of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings acted as the film’s stunt and fight coordinator during filming in Hungary and Croatia.

Sony Pictures has been confirmed to be distributing the film worldwide, with the exception of Japan, China, and the Middle East. Of these three exclusions, only Japan has a confirmed distributor with Toei Company.
