ULTRAMAN Season 2 Coming To Netflix In 2022

Announced alongside a new teaser, the second season of Netflix’s ULTRAMAN anime has a newly announced premiere window in 2022.

As the name would suggest, Tokyo’s “Anime Ultraman Season 2 Kickoff Event” brought news of the launch window for the new season of Netflix’s ULTRAMAN. The 2019 3D CGI anime will finally continue with season 2 seeing a global release in 2022. Season 1’s cast and crew are also confirmed to have returned for production of the next chapter.

A key highlight of the kickoff event is the release of an all new teaser featuring live action versions of the Ultraman suits from the anime. The trailer (uploaded in the below tweet) also shows off the new Ultraman Ace suit design. This design is also featured in the key visual pictured above.

Season 2 has been long-awaited since its confirmation in 2019. The returning cast provided their comments on the announcement. The first comes from the voice of Shinjiro Hayata, Ryohei Kimura:

“While a lot of time has passed since season 1, there has been game collaborations, ULTRAMAN suits made real, and live promotional video made. All this, including today’s event, was made possible thanks to all of you who wanted to see the anime continue. All of your positive energy became power for all of us in the cast and staff. Season 2 will be an even more interesting show than season 1, so please look forward to it. Thank you for coming out today.”

Dan Moroboshi will once again be portrayed by Takuya Eguchi:

“Thank you for coming out today. If you’ve seen season 1, you probably already know, but the wonderful staff is making something great. Season 2 has a lot of expectations to meet, so we want to bring you something great. Please look forward to the show. Thank you very much.”

Seiji Hokuto will be played by Megumi Han:

“It’s been a long time since our last event, so thank you for coming out to this. There have been a few surprises along the way, but this really feels like a dream has come true. Through ULTRAMAN, I also want to relay to people that dreams do come true. Everyone, let’s do our best together. I can’t wait until we can meet again. See you in season 2! Thank you!”

Hideyuki Tanaka will voice Shin Hayata, host of the original Ultraman:

“My hope for season 2 is a “circle”. What I mean is that I’d like for everything to be fit nicely as if in a circle. We’re making season 2 to be even better than season 1, so please look forward to it.”

Ryota Takeuchi will return to voice Jack:

“Going from season 1 to season 2, I want to play Jack even better, so please look forward to ULTRAMAN season 2. I also want to say “I am Ultraman!” come season 2.”

In addition to the returning cast, co-directors Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki will be returning to work with Production I.G. and Sola Digital Arts once again. Director Kamiyama provided the following comment:

“Sorry to keep you waiting, the production is moving forward. There are new sibling characters appearing in this powered up second season, so definitely look forward to it!”

Director Aramaki asks for fans’ patience as the release approaches 3 years after the first season:

“All of the cast and staff are working to meet everyone’s expectations based on your reactions to season 1! Please wait just a little longer!”

Tatsuhisa Suzuki who plays the voices of both Kotaro Higashi in ULTRAMAN and Gege in Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger recently went on hiatus from the entertainment industry. No announcement regarding his role has been made at this time.

ULTRAMAN is an adaptation of a manga by the same name which serves as an alternate timeline sequel to the original Ultraman tokusatsu series. When Shinjiro Hayata, the son of original Ultraman host Shin Hayata, discovers his father’s identity, he dons a super-powered mech suit modeled after Ultraman and designed by the Science Special Search Party (SSSP) to become the new Ultraman.

Along the way, Shinjiro encounters others who wear their own Ultraman Suits such as Dan Moroboshi in the Seven Suit and Seiji Hokuto in the Ace Suit. As the group fights aliens, Shinjiro comes to discover a strange dormant power within him.

ULTRAMAN season 1 is currently available to stream on Netflix. Once again, season 2 is expected to release in 2022.
