Ganbareiwa!! Robocon Coming To DVD In December

The latest project featuring Toei’s energetic but bumbling robot helper comes to DVD next month.

Toei has announced that Ganbareiwa!! Robocon: Oh-La-La! The Loving Brothless Tantanmen Episode! will be released on DVD on December 2. Marking the first Robocon project in 20 years, the story follows the excitable red robot making a crash landing into the lives of a family that runs a small noodle shop. While trying to help them with a delivery, Robocon manages to spill all the broth in the noodle bowls, somehow leading to a global uproar with Robocon’s crush, Robin, thrown into the mix.

Extras for the DVD include the trailer for the movie as well as the first episodes of both Ganbare!! Robocon and Moero!! Robocon. The DVD will retail for 2800 yen plus tax.

The cast includes Saburo Yahshiki as Hiroshi, Yu Takahashi (Kamen Rider Kiva) and Kazuyuki Kora as Hiroshi’s mom and dad, Michiko Shimizu as Granny Tornado, Chiwa Saito (Tomica Hero Rescue Force) as the voice of Robocon, Masashi Ebara (Rider Time: Shinobi) as the voice of Professor Gantz, and Kenichi Suzumura (Ryutaros in Kamen Rider Den-O) as the voice of the “Brothless Tantanmen”.

The original series, Ganbare! Robocon, ran from 1974 to 1977 for a total of 118 episodes following Robocon’s misadventures as he tries to earn 100 Heart Points by assisting human families. The show was later rebooted in 1999 as Moero!! Robocon, leading to a direct-to-video movie where the 70’s Robocon meets up with the 90’s Robocon.

No Blu-Ray? I can understand the older shows never making it to Blu-Ray (save for some SD-on-Blu configuration that WOULD be cool due to the number of episodes) but a movie from 2020 deserves a HD release. Fingers crossed it comes to hD digitally.
