ULTRAMAN and Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Collaboration Visual Revealed

New visual featuring The Major and Ultraman highlights shared creative teams for both Netflix anime series

On April 12, Netflix revealed a new key visual featuring the two lead characters from Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and ULTRAMAN as well as a teaser for both anime shows, which you can check out below. The visual was created to celebrate the two properties sharing the same creative teams. Both 3DCG anime series are directed by Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki, with music by Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi, and produced by Production IG and SOLA DIGITAL ARTS.

Adapted from the manga by Masamune Shirow, the plot of the new anime involves the world engulfed in an AI-driven “sustainable war” following a global financial crisis. It’s up to the reassembled task force of Public Security Section 9, led by Motoko Kusanagi to counter new forms of cyber threats that have arisen, including the mysterious “posthuman.” Production IG continues its tradition of having worked on all previous iterations of Ghost in the Shell, from the two movies by Mamoru Oishii to the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Ghost in the Shell Arise series.

Debuting in 2019, ULTRAMAN is adapted from the 2011 manga of the same name which served as a direct sequel to the original 1966 Ultraman series. Set several years after the events of the original series, the anime focuses on Shinjiro Hayata, the teenage son of Shin Hayata, the original host of Ultraman. When a new alien threat appears, it is up to Shinjiro to follow in his father’s footsteps and become the latest hero of light, Ultraman. The second season of ULTRAMAN was announced last year.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will premiere on Netflix starting on April 23. Season 1 of ULTRAMAN is streaming now on Netflix and will be broadcast on Tokyo MX and BS 11 starting this month.
