For this month’s Meet the Team, we feature Staff Writer and animal-lover, Katie Peterson.
Can you tell us about yourself?
My name is Katie and I’m currently 23 years old. I work in the emergency side of veterinary medicine and my side hobbies include cosplay and singing.
How did you first get into tokusatsu?
I was formally introduced to tokusatsu through Dustin/The Next Decade. I was a little too late to be a Power Rangers kid, which I think was to my benefit. It was a fresh new experience and I think it’s what caused me to move away from watching anime as much.
How did you become a member of Team TokuNet and what does your role entail?
I had met Nicole at a convention and shortly after she made a post in search of more contributors to TokuNet. One of the skeletons in my closet is a mountain of semi-embarrassing fan fiction that actually led to me having a strong writing style and the ability to type up to 95 WPM. I decided to give it a shot and I’m so thankful that I was brought on as official staff shortly after. Being able to use my writing experience to the tune of official tokusatsu news is a dream come true.
What is your favorite tokusatsu show or movie?
There is just something special about Kamen Rider Build. The characters are great, the villains hold purpose and meaning, and the charm never fades. I feel like I could talk about that wonderful foursome of boys for hours.
Is there a funny or memorable moment from working in TokuNet that you would like to share?
I don’t really have a big moment that stands out, but there’s something comforting about knowing you’re surrounded by people who love this genre of shows just as much as you. You are all gathered for a purpose, and that purpose involves something we all care so much for. That makes working in TokuNet very much like a family.
Outside of working for TokuNet, do you have any personal projects or hobbies?
I have been cosplaying since 2011 and document my cosplays on my cosplay Facebook page and Instagram. I also use my Instagram to upload short song covers whenever I get the time. I’ve won awards and competitions for my singing and I try to keep myself in tune by doing these short videos of songs every once in a while.
