Artists Take To Instagram with Kaiju Art for Month of June

artist: @flancortes

Various artists participate in a monthly dedication to giant monsters, dubbed Kaijune.

With the recent release of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, many artists have been inspired to draw Kaiju-themed art. Some artists base their work off of the movie, while others create their own favorites. The release of the Legendary Pictures film coincides with a tradition among artists who spend the month of June or July dedicated to drawing the creatures, called “Kaijune” and “Kaijuly” respectively.

Some prompt lists began to circulate, but the one that has the most participants so far is by @flancortes on Instagram. These prompt lists give artists wanting to participate a list of guidelines for each day of the month.

At the time of this article, artists are only a few days into the event and the hashtags #kaijune, #kaijuly, and #kaijune2019 have exploded with participation. Per @flancortes’ post, adherence to the prompt list is not required, it’s all just about having fun and sharing work.
