Kamen Rider W’s Renn Kiriyama To Take On Sadako

A new horror film staring former Kamen Rider W actor opens this summer

It was announced this week that a new installment of the long running Ring franchise will hit theaters this summer. Titled simply Sadako, the new film will focus on the origins of the title character. Elaiza Ikeda (Kakegurui) stars as a psychiatrist trying to solve the curse on her younger brother, played by Hiroya Shimizu (Chihayafuru). Rounding out the cast is Takashi Tsukamoto (Battle Royale), Rie Tomosaka, Renn Kiriyama, and Himeka Himejima.

Kiriyama is known for his role as Shotaro Hidari in 2009’s Kamen Rider W, making up half of the detective duo that makes up the titular hero, with later appearances showing the character going it solo at times as Kamen Rider Joker. Kiriyama has come back to the role several times, most recently in 2014’s Heisei Rider vs Showa Rider: Kamen Rider Taisen Feat. Super Sentai. Notably, this would be the second time Kiriyama has been a part of the horror world, having previously appeared in Ju-On: The Final Curse in 2015. Kiriyama made his first U.S. appearance at Japan World Heroes in Pasadena, CA back in 2017.

Sadako is set to hit theaters in Japan on May 24.
