HERO BOOSTER: A Tokusatsu-Inspired Card Game

Funding has begun for the HERO BOOSTER card game that runs with the power of tokusatsu-inspired heroes.

An independently created card game is raising money on Kickstarter and it holds the familiarity of your favorite tokusatsu characters. Formerly featured artist Anaseed is at the helm of an imaginative new venture, using his unique style of art and love for card games to create a project that has long been in the works.

HERO BOOSTER: Superhero Card Game is a card game that uses characters and items designed by Anaseed to battle it out in classic card game style. Strategy for the game lies in pairing up heroes with different power-up items in order to do battle with the other player. All proceeds of the Kickstarter are being used to mass produce the game and make it available for the backers as well as for individual purchase.

According to Anaseed, the idea was almost an accident, “I drew a few illustrations on the fly for some stickers I wanted to make but couldn’t quite settle on how I wanted to execute it. I started playing around with something similar to a trump card at which point I had a bit of a lightbulb moment. I love tokusatsu and I like playing card card games, thus Hero Booster was born.”

Anaseed mainly attributes his stylistic choices to Kamen Rider, saying that two of the character cards are pulled straight from his other heavily inspired Kamen Rider work known as Duzida, a comic. Though he assures fans more preferring of Super Sentai that he has some Sentai and Power Rangers themed cards in the works for a planned expansion deck. When asked which card-wielding Kamen Rider was his favorite, Anaseed replied “Blade is by far my favorite card using Rider. It was one of the first series I watched back in the day. Decade is a close second, but that’s purely based on the sounds his belt makes!”

Rewards for pledging to the project include getting a copy of the game (which includes 70 cards, the play mat, D20 and D6 dice, and the rulebook) as well as other special items like pins, stickers, prints, and future expansion packs. At the time of this article, Anaseed is already over halfway towards his projected goal of £1300 (equivalent to $1657). The Kickstarter will be open until December 29.
