1st Annual Godzilla Certification Exams Announced

Toho Studios announces an opportunity for kaiju fans to test their Godzilla knowledge


In celebration of the upcoming 65th anniversary of the King of Monsters, Toho Studios has announced the launch of the 1st Annual Godzilla Certification Exam. The exam will be held in both Tokyo and Osaka on March 10, 2019.

The exams will consist of multiple choice questions derived from the Godzilla Exams Official Text booklet and divided into two difficulty levels: beginner and intermediate. The beginner’s test will cover additional material from the original 1954 movie as well as 2016’s Shin Godzilla, whereas the intermediate test will cover all 29 Japanese films in the Godzilla franchise.

In order to receive official certification, applicants must correctly answer a minimum of 65% of the questions for the beginner level exam or 70% of the questions correctly for the intermediate level exam. Fans that wish to try their luck can apply at this link. The entry fee rates for the exams are as follows:

  • Beginner’s exam ————- 5000 yen /$44.46 US
  • Intermediate exam ——— 6000 yen /$53.36 US
  • Both exams ——————- 9500 yen /$84.48 US (a savings of 1500 yen /$12.94 US)

There will also be limited edition merchandise available at both venues on the day of the exam.
