At WonderCon today, Saban Brands unveiled the 2018-2020 entry in the Power Rangers series: Power Rangers Nine Force, which will adapt the currently-airing Uchū Sentai Kyuranger.

The following release was distributed exclusively to the TokuNet team at WonderCon 2017:

“To battle the biggest threat the Universe has ever faced, it’ll take a bigger team than usual: Power Rangers Nine Force!

Harnessing the power of the mighty Galactic Globes, nine heroes from across the universe will band together to battle the forces of the evil Dark Matter and his reformed Alliance of Evil. Together, the mighty Nine Force will quest to unlock the secrets of the Universe, gaining access to an arsenal of Galaxy Weapons that include the powerful Customizer Swords, invincible Pegasus Armor, and titanic Voyagerzords.”

The release also notes that Nine Force will be “Arriving next year from another galaxy on Nick – April 2018” confirming that the franchise will remain on Nickelodeon for the foreseeable future.

Characters listed as making up the initial Nine Rangers include:

  • Chance, the Red Ranger, the luckiest man on Earth
  • Alfa Canis, the Blue Ranger, the team’s tracker, who hides that he’s a werewolf from the team
  • Mathulon, the Gold Ranger, a golden calculation robot who dreams of stardom
  • Ultrataur, the Black Ranger, a muscly minotaur and the team’s strong-man
  • Uchū Kita, the Silver Ranger, last survivor of an alien race
  • Stinger, the Orange Ranger – in a first for Power Rangers, originating star Yōsuke Kishi will extend his current role in Kyūranger, with Stinger’s wanderings leading him to America
  • Karma, the Green Ranger, a woman with chameleon-like stealth who’s definitely not Rita Repulsa from the movie in disguise
  • Shayera Thal, the Pink Ranger, a winged police-woman from the planet Thanagar
  • Roberto Filet, the Yellow Ranger, played by famed Iron Chef Bobby Flay.
  • Commander Dragon – Dragon? He’s a dragon! Dragon, balls, he.

The remainder of the main, live-action cast has yet to be set in place, but the voice cast and some guest stars has already been confirmed to include appearances by former Rangers.

In what’s likely to be a controversial casting move, it was announced that former Ranger actor Blake Foster will join the team as the voice of the “adult form” of the size-changing Aqua Ranger in the series’ second half, Power Rangers Nine-Plus Force Brave Deluxe, in a reference to his previous role as Justin / the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Turbo.

Will you be tuning in April 1st, 2018 to see the launch of Power Rangers Nine Force?

Probably not, because this is an April Fools’ joke.

Reading April Fool’s articles on April 2 is freaking annoying.

What year will the series be set in? Will it be set somewhere between 1960-69 AD or something? Because there’s never been a PR series set in historical time periods. I mean the 60s is not bad for the Power Rangers, for instance. 1960s civilian costumes are not that expensive for Saban, whatever.

The reason why I’m asking about the time period of this upcoming PR series is because there’s never been any historical time period-themed PR series. There have been futuristic ones but not historical ones and if this series were to be set in the 1960s, it would be interesting, meaning the Power Rangers go back in time. Not to mention, there would be 60s music featured as well if this series was set in that time period.
