Ultraman Orb is nearing the end of its run, but fans won’t have to wait until the movie to see Kurenai Gai and his nemesis Jugglus Juggler again. On December 26th, Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga will premier exclusively on Amazon Prime, with a new episode coming out every Monday for the next twelve weeks. Tsuburaya is planning to have both English and German subtitles available.
The new show is a prequel that focuses on the origins of Gai and Juggler, so Hideo Ishiguro and Takaya Aoyagi are returning to their respective roles. Kazuya Konaka (Ultraman The Next, Ultraman Nexus, Ultraman Ginga) is directing, and Yuji Kobayashi (Ultraman Max, Ultraman Mebius) is writing.
Konaka had this to say:
Ultraman was originally a program enjoyed by both adults and children. We were children back then and saw reruns of the first generation even after growing up. This lead us to discover deep themes and messages. With the Heisei Ultraman series I wanted to portray the unique charm of a series like this and I’m honored to help in distributing an Ultraman series not only for children but for adults as well. While incorporating plenty of miniature works, we will open a new horizon with the latest digital effects.
Prime Video and Content Business Head James Farrell commented: “I am delighted to to be able to collaborate with Tsuburaya on a traditional production like this Ultraman Orb spinoff. Special effects fans and Japanese Prime members will surely enjoy the series”
The Origin Saga is only one part of a larger deal between Tsuburaya and Amazon. Beginning November 24th, Japanese Prime Video subscribers have access to the following Ultra Series entries.
- Ginga S
