New details regarding the recently announced Kamen Rider Amazons series have been revealed via a press conference.
As part of the Super Hero Year event celebrating 45 years of Kamen Rider and 40 of Sentai and following the movie Kamen Rider 1 starring Hiroshi Fujioka, Kamen Rider Amazons, a totally new installment following the original 4th Kamen Rider series, has been announced.
A press event was held with the presence of the main cast and main producer, Shinichi Shirakura, who is also current CEO of Toei. Shirakura previously produced numerous early Heisei Kamen Rider series.
As its name indicates, the series will feature various versions of Kamen Rider Amazon. The lead characters represent polar opposite, one being Yu Mizusawa (actor Tom Fujita, in his first tokusatsu role), a gentle but weak and sickly boy who transforms into Kamen Rider Amazon Omega and Jin Takayama (Kyukyu Sentai GoGoV), a boisterous man who is not bothered by small details and hunts whatever he eats and transforms into Kamen Rider Amazon Alpha. The series portrays this wild/domesticated confrontation.
As for the people behind the camera, the creators of the Heisei Rider concept gathered. Hidenori Ishida, better known for his work in Kamen Rider Kuuga was in charge of directing Episodes 1 and 2. Episodes 3 and 4 were in charge of Tasaki Ryuta, another Heisei regent.
Veteran script writer Yasuko Kobayashi is serves as head writer while Kuniaki Haishima created the score.
Shirakura opened the event with a shocking comment: “Do you think Kamen Rider is interesting lately? I actually don’t. The most unusual series to date is, in my opinion, Kamen Rider Amazon. I wanted to use this opportunity to make Amazon a major player again and bring the “spikiness” to Heisei Riders.”
Instead of a TV broadcast, the series will be streamed exclusively through Amazon’s Amazon Prime Video service in Japan on April 1st, with a new episode every week for a total of 13.
The theme is called “Armour Zone”, performed by Taro Kobayashi.
