Ultraman Orb Reference File: Challenge from the Underground

What secrets were hidden within the second episode of Ultraman Orb? Were you able to find them?

Every week, we’ll cover an Easter egg found within the latest episode of Ultraman Orb. These Easter eggs reference moments from the 50 year history of the Ultraman series. Today, we cover Ultraman Orb’s second episode in where an underground monster is causing havoc on the surface.

While at the SSP office, one of Shin’s lines contains the phrase “a challenge from the underground?” when Jetta mentions people think a new phenomenon is linked a rumored underground civilization.

Shin’s line is a direct reference to episode 21 and 29 of Ultraman Max and Ultraman, respectively. The Max episode was titled “Challenge from the Underground” while the Ultraman episode was “Challenge to the Underground”.

The Max episode featured the monster Gomora, who is now a heroic monster but was a major threat in the past. Gomora itself was the first monster to defeat Ultraman. In the second episode of Orb, Gomora was used to power Maga Grand King, the episode’s monster.
