New Ultraman Retsuden Airs Final Episode in June
The Ultraman compilation program will air its final episode in June.
New Ultraman Retsuden, which began as Ultraman Retsuden, will air its final episode this June. The series began in 2011 and has served as a means of introducing new viewers to the Ultraman mythos via clip shows, movie airings, and “greatest hits” episode airings. Ultraman Retsuden, which ran for 8 cours (13 episode TV season in Japan) and New Retsuden which ran for 12 cours, are considered by Tsuburaya Productions to be the longest running Ultraman shows to date.
The most recent Ultraman shows, Ultraman Ginga, Ultraman Ginga S, and Ultraman X, all aired as part of the New Ultraman Retsuden series, with their episode count contributing towards New Retsuden’s overall series length.
In a post on their blog, Tsuburaya Productions mentions that this July marks the 50th anniversary of the Ultraman franchise, to be celebrated with the airing of the 26 episode series, Ultraman Orb. The new series will be the first Ultraman series since 2007’s Ultraseven X to air as a completely independent Ultraman show.
Ultraman Orb is the 50th anniversary entry in the Ultra Series. It stars Hideo Ishiguro as Kurenai Gai/Ultraman Orb. He uses the powers of two Ultras at the same time to fight kaiju. Ultraman Orb‘s head director is Kiyotaka Taguchi, who is returning from Ultraman X along with head writers Takao Nakano and Yuji Kobayashi. The show premieres July 9th.
