Veteran Sentai Duet Isao Sasaki and Mitsuko Horie Return in Zenkaiger
Veteran tokusatsu theme singers Isao Sasaki and Mitsuko Horie return in episode 2 of Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger singing an insert song.
In celebration of Super Sentai’s 45th season, Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger, veteran tokusatsu musical composer Chuumei Watanabe announced his involvement during Zenkaiger’s press announcement on January 15, and he’s not the only veteran to return to the franchise. Joining him in composing Zenkaiger’s music is Ken’ichiro Ooishi, another veteran Sentai composer. Having composed since Super Sentai’s very first Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, Watanabe’s music combined with Ooishi’s arrangement will create new “Reiwa era hero songs” that will also evoke a taste of nostalgia for the Showa era.
In addition, episode 2 of Zenkaiger (aired March 14) marked the return of legendary duet Isao Sasaki and Mitsuko Horie. Also known as the king and queen of anime songs, Sasaki and Horie have been singing songs across the Showa, Heisei, and now the Reiwa eras. In fact, Sasaki and Horie sang both the opening and ending themes for Himitsu Sentai Gorenger as duets. As nods to their involvement in the franchise, both of (Zenkaizer) Kaito Goshikida’s parents are named Isao and Mitsuko.
Sasaki and Horie sing the insert song “Zenkai Gattai! JuranGaon,” composed by Chuumei Watanabe and arranged by Ken’ichiro Ooishi, which plays as ZenkaiOh JuraGaon is fighting a monster. The last time Sasaki and Horie sang as a duet was for the ending theme of Science Ninja Gatchaman II in 1978.

Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger is Super Sentai’s 45th series and started airing in Japan on March 7, 2021. As Zenkaigers, human Kaito Goshikida fights alongside four Kikanoids to stop the Corrupt Dynasty Tojitend from destroying Kaito’s world.
