The Case File Of The Grim Reaper’s Errand Film and Stage Show Announced

The Case File Of The Grim Reaper’s Errand, a new stage show and film by Toei, will feature tokusatsu alum in both productions.


Toei has announced a new project that included a film and stage show in production. The name of the project is titled The Case File Of The Grim Reaper’s Errand, with the stage show and film also having two different sub titles. Along with the title of the project, the stage show has the extra title Kyokyoku Requiem and the film has the extra title Puppet Nocturne.

This new project is the new addition to the Toei Movie and Stage project, with this being the second installment after the GOZEN project.

Both the film and the stage show features actors that have worked in tokusatsu prior. Masashi Taniguchi (GoBlue & Jin/Amazon Alpha) is appearing in the stage show.

Tokusatsu actors appearing in the film version are as followed:

  • Hiroki Suzuki (Kamen Rider Blade of Blade’s World in Kamen Rider Decade)
  • Hiroya Matsumoto (MagiYellow & BeetBuster)
  • Riho Takada (Hina from Kamen Rider OOO)
  • Gaku Oshida (Kamen Rider Geiz)
  • Takashi Hagino (Kamen Rider Ouja)
  • Shoko Takada (Orobo from Ninpuu Sentai Hurricaneger)
  • Syo Jinnai (Enter from Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters)

The Case File Of The Grim Reaper’s Errand -Puppet Nocturne- is set in Edo. Genshiro Kusasa (Hiroki Suzuki) who runs a detective business in the city. He also has a contract with a grim reaper named Juuran. Genshiro is the son of a puppeteer who served the Tototomi family, and also the grim reaper. A murder case then occurs at the Great Yukaku in Yoshiwara. Working on the screenplay for the film is Taiji Sudoh.

Directing The Case File Of The Grim Reaper’s Errand -Kyokyoku Requiem- is Norihiro Mohri.  The stage show continues the story from the film. The stage show, Shinnosuke Shoji, the chief of the sorceress at the Yoshiwara Yukaku, and the shinigami Shinransuke go on a rampage.

Puppet Nocturne will release in theaters in Japan on May 29th, 2020. Kyokyoku Requiem will run from July to August 2020.
