The jidageki drama will star many former Kamen Rider and Super Sentai cast members.

The production, teased earlier this month by producers Hideaki Tsukada (Gekiranger, Kamen Rider W, Fourze) and Takahito Omori (Kyoryuger, Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, Build) with the code letters “M” and “S” has been officially revealed as part of the Toei Movie and Stage project.

Described as “act 1”, GOZEN will feature both a movie and theatrical performance, each with their own individual casts and stories, but still interconnected.

The movie, GOZEN: The Sword of Pure Romance, will be directed by Hidenori Ishida (Kamen Rider Kuuga, Hibiki, Kabuto) and written by Keiko Utsumi.

Atsuhiro Inukai (Kamen Rider Build) stars alongside Kohei Takeda (Kamen Rider Kiva, Sengoku Basara: Moonlight Party, Build), Hiroshi Yazaki (Ultra Zone), Seiya Motoki (Lupinranger vs Patranger), Taira Imata (Kamen Rider Drive), Takahisa Maeyama (Kamen Rider Wizard), Yuki Izawa (Sengoku Basara: Moonlight Party), Hiroya Matsumoto (Magiranger, Go-Busters)

The two GOZEN productions are jidageki (period piece) dramas. The word “gozen” refers to a feudal game held in the presence of a Daimyo, described as a match “one must not lose”.

The theme of Act 1 is the feudal games. Filming for the movie has been completed while the stage play will be developed alongside a professional historical group and Toei’s Kyoto Studios.

Nobuhiro Mori (Kyuranger‘s head writer) will serve as director and writer for the stage show portion, GOZEN: Sword Frenzy, whose cast will be revealed at a later date.

Both The Sword of Pure Romance and Sword Frenzy will open later this year.
