Ultraman Series to Receive Global Expansion

Tsuburaya Productions recently held a Malaysian press conference, where they announced the global future for the Ultraman series.

In a recent ruling by the United States District Court, Tsuburaya Productions won its bid to be the sole intellectual property owner of Ultraman. President of Tsuburaya, Masayuki Nagatake, announced that this has led them to focus on a global expansion for the Ultraman series. At the first major Ultraman press conference in Malaysia, Tsuburaya announced all their upcoming plans and business cooperation with their Malaysian and Southeast Asian partners.

“I am proud to announce that we, Tsuburaya Productions Co. Ltd, have won the US lawsuit which solidifies our decades-long faith and efforts to fully and finally resolve this dispute and confirm our worldwide rights to Ultraman.

As the US judgement is highly recognized and most reliable judgement in the world, with its so called Discovery process, where both parties must disclose enormous amounts of documents, materials and communications that both parties had in their possession, which was not mandatory in previous lawsuits, US lawsuit has the most legitimate way to discover the truth in the dispute, we intend to actively proceed with the further overseas expansion of the Ultraman works.”

Tsuburaya also revealed their plans for the next three years. First is the announcement of Ultraman R/B airing on Malaysia’s Astro TV starting August 30th. They also announced that the current series, Ultraman Taiga, will become available worldwide in 2020. They will also be launching an online series called Ultra Galaxy Fight, featuring Ultraman‘s New Generation Heroes VS the League of Darkness – this will broadcast on their official YouTube channel starting September 29th. Season 2 of Netflix’s Ultraman series is also in production, and will feature more characters.

Furthermore, it was stated that Kaiju Step will be broadcasting on Japan’s NHK TV network this October. In addition, the production for Shin Ultraman, a movie adaptation of the original Ultraman from 1966, is ongoing. Shin Ultraman is schuled to be released in 2021 and is being called the biggest budgeted Ultraman movie.
