New Boss Coffee Ad Celebrates Original Godzilla Suit Actor Haruo Nakajima
New ad highlights the man who brought Godzilla to life for almost a quarter century.
In preparation for the upcoming release of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures new film Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a new ad has begun running from Boss Coffee celebrating the contributions of the man inside the Godzilla suit, Haruo Nakajima. The minute long ad highlights the struggles that Nakajima faced while playing Godzilla, such as the weight and heat of the suit, as well as taking on a role that no one would readily recognize him for. A version of the commercial with English subtitles can be seen below.
Starting with the original Gojira film in 1954, Nakajima went on to play Godzilla for twelve consecutive films until he retired from suit acting after Godzilla vs. Gigan in 1972. He had been praised by Eiji Tsuburaya as being invaluable to the kaiju film genre. In the latter part of his life, Nakajima had begun attending conventions in the West such as Monsterpalooza and G-FEST up until his passing in 2017.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters opens worldwide on May 31, 2019.
