Summary of Zi-O SG Watcher: Vol.12
Bandai’s candy toy blog posted a new entry for Kamen Rider Zi-O, bringing back an old toyline and revealing an unexpected addition to the SO-DO series.
The man in charge of candy toy development goes by D, and in honor of Zi-O, he has changed his usual nickname to Di-O.
Di-O opens by saying “Although there was no broadcast for Kamen Rider Zi-O today, Zi-O SG Watcher will update vigorously!” – he then provides a list of things that are confirmed for release in the next two months.
November 5th: Heisei Kamen Rider Kids: 20 Riders Assemble!! Edition
November 19th: Sound RideWatch Series: SG RideWatch 03
December 3rd: Kamen Rider Battle Ganbarizing: RiderTime Choco Wafers 2 / SO-DO Kamen Rider Zi-O RIDE 3 (And Set)
The new thing appearing on this list is Kamen Rider Kids. This was a candy toy line that started in 2002, and continued on until 2014 with the debut of Kamen Rider Drive. For the first time in 4 years, the line will be seeing a new release.
In honor of Kamen Rider Zi-O being the 20th Heisei series, this “20 Riders Assemble!!” edition will feature the lead Riders of each Heisei era show. In the case of Kuuga to Drive, these are the exact same molds that were released in previous years, but everything from Ghost to Zi-O is entirely new.
Di-O provides several photos and comments on these figurines.
“It’s also interesting to arrange Riders with shared themes!”
Di-O believes that the Kamen Rider Kids line is able to deliver the coolness of the designs on a chibi level, and hopes that fans keep an eye on it. They’re inexpensive and plentiful.
Also, a followup on the Christmas cake release. Previously, it was announced that they were doing a special campaign lottery for those who pre-ordered – the initial details on that can be seen here. The RideWatches that encompass the campaign prize include:
- Snipe RideWatch
- Evol RideWatch
- Ghost Grateful Damashii RideWatch
- Kaixa RideWatch
- Birth RideWatch
These are RideWatches released exclusively in the SG RideWatch series – the last three have also just been revealed for SG RideWatch 03.
In January 2019, there will be a special release for SO-DO, titled SO-DO Kamen Rider Zi-O EX: Zi-O Mechanics.
SO-DO now embarks on an unprecedented addition to this 4″ line: The TimeMazine, Kamen Rider Zi-O’s time machine and giant robot. It looks to be about 8″ tall, and while this may be smaller than the DX TimeMazine release, it features a lot more articulation, and can still transform into its vehicle mode. The images shown here are prototypes and are subject to change.
It will come with two RideWatch parts so that two different heads can be displayed on it. It will come with three stickers, which so far includes the Zi-O RideWatch and the OOO RideWatch. It seems that the final sticker will be revealed another time.
Di-O explains that since the TimeMazine is an overwhelming size, they’ve divided it into three sets, similar to the approach of Super Sentai’s Minipla series. More details about this will be available in their next update.
Also a part of this new SO-DO set is the RideStriker.
“It’s the beloved vehicle of Zi-O/Geiz, the RideStriker, which transforms from the Bike RideWatch! In SO-DO, we’ve allowed the Bike RideWatch transformation to be omitted in order to put more weight on the detailed appearance of the motorcycle.
Additionally, although the RideStriker is a single item in the wave, without having to be split into two sets, its size is comparable to the Machine Builder of last year!”
Di-O also explains how this was considered to be part of the “Impossibility Frame” in the SO-DO series – that is to say, the use of the word “Frame” refers to something being out of the budget. However, the set is indeed happening, and it will be on retail in January. They will be priced at 500 Yen apiece, which is 100 more Yen than the usual SO-DO price for Zi-O.
On the subject of SO-DO Kamen Rider W, it seems that they’ve received much favorable reception over the Premium Bandai set reveal. As previously covered, this is a set to complete the most notable forms of Double; HeatMetal, LunaTrigger, and CycloneJokerXtreme. The retail wave (CycloneJoker, FangJoker, and Kamen Rider Joker) will be available in February.
“And that’s todays update! Next update will be on Sunday, November 11th!”
