Shin Godzilla Gets English Title

Toho made a surprise appearance at the American Film Market to screen a preview of Godzilla Resurgence.

The AFM is an annual, eight day long event where filmmakers and production companies come together in Santa Monica, CA to show off new projects and work out distribution deals. This year, Toho showed up with a surprise preview of their new film, Shin Godzilla, and revealed it will be called Godzilla Resurgence for overseas markets.

This news means Toho is seeking to make an international distribution deal ahead of the film’s Japanese theatrical release. Whether or not a distributor will pick up the film for international theaters is yet to be seen.

Godzilla Resurgence is directed by Hideaki Anno, with special effects by Shinji Higuchi. It stars Hiromi Hasegawa, Takenouchi Yutaka, and Satomi Ishihara, and will hit Japanese theaters Summer 2016.
