Robert Baldwin, Kyoryu Cyan, Opens Bar in Tokyo

Japanese born Canadian actor Robert Baldwin, better known as Chousei Kantai Sazer-X‘s Gordo and Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger‘s Ramirez, has opened his own bar in Azabu Juban in Tokyo, called The Nest.

Azaba Juban, situated next to the popular expat community in Roppongi, is now home to a western-themed bar, run by a familiar face. The town’s architecture is based on a European village; roads with cobber-stone streets with restaurants and shops sharing this theme. The Nest also has a western interior, aged wooden seating and bar, chalk board menus, jelly sweets on each table with a welcome mat that you wouldn’t ever see in an establishment in Japan. All accompanied by music from a Canadian rock radio station.

Behind the bar is a line of spirits, rums, scotch and the like, a mixture of western and Japanese products, guarded by a small toy of Gordo. One of the prominently popular Canadian whiskeys, a running theme of the bar, is Crown Royal Whisky, an extremely hard commodity to come across in Tokyo. This is also one of the few bars in the country that you will be able to order a Caesar, drunk by the entire population of Canada (35 million in one year), complete with all the proper ingredients.

It’s not just alcohol being served, there is a choice of western side dishes to snack on. From nachos, cheesey fries and even homemade chili con carne.

If you’re in Tokyo and looking for a place to drink and snack on in a both western and Japanese environment, be sure to stop by.

In 2014, we interviewed Robert were he talked about his career, growing up in Japan and Canada and his love of tokusatsu.

He came back once again and joined his fellow Kyoryuger actor, Masayuki Deai, in a special Spirit Ranger Talk, where they answered fan questions.

Special thanks to Robert Baldwin for allowing us to write this article.

I've been floating around doing various things in the fandom for the past decade. Now living in Japan, writing news articles and occasionally starring in a show as "Only white guy in the background".
