Masaki Suda Wins Japan Academy Newcomer of the Year Prize

Kamen Rider W star Masaki Suda wins the Newcomer of the Year award during the 37th Japan Academy Prize Ceremony that took place March 7, 2014.


Suda posted the photo above on his blog the day after the awards ceremony along with heartfelt thanks to his supporters.

Suda starred in the 2013 movie The Backwater (Tomogui / 共喰い) based on the novel by Shinya Tanaka. The film won accolades in the Locarno International Film Festival, including Best Film from the festival’s Junior’s Jury. The movie’s DVD was released on March 5th.

The Japan Academy Prize, or often called the Japanese Academy Awards, is the series of awards annually given by the Nippon Academy-Shō Association for excellence in Japanese film.

Suda is better known among tokusatsu fans as Philip, the other half of Kamen Rider W. The tokusatsu series aired from 2009-2010.
