New Series GARO: Hagane o Tsugu Mono Announced for January 2024

A new GARO series, titled GARO: Hagane o Tsugu Mono, will begin airing from January 2024.

On October 10, a brand new show was announced for the GARO series titled GARO: Hagane o Tsugu Mono (or GARO: The One Who Inherits Steel). Celebrating the 10th anniversary of GARO: Yami o Terasu Mono (The One Who Shines in Darkness), this new series will star Wataru Kuriyama reprising his role as Ryuga Dogai / Garo.

The “Hagane” or “Steel” in the title is a general term for the armor summoned by Makai Knights seen across the franchise, and while he continues to be the protagonist, this will be the first time that Ryuga will hold the key to the plot of the series.

While Kuriyama is the only confirmed cast member as of this writing, the crew does include directors Yasuhiro Matsuda, Yukazu Tanaka, and Yoshikatsu Kimura. Matsuda has previously directed episodes for GARO: Makai no Hana and the GARO: Gold Storm Sho TV Series. Meanwhile, Tanaka has directed a variety of police dramas, and Kimura is experienced with action productions. The action director of the show has also been confirmed to be Masaki Suzumura, who has previously worked alongside Japanese action star Tak Sakaguchi on the films Prisoners of the Ghostland and Death Trance.

The screenwriters include Norikatsu Kodama and Riuji Yoshizaki, both of whom come from the Screenwriting agency QueenB. Attack on Titan and Shin Godzilla makeup artist JIRO is in charge of make-up effects.

Alongside the announcement, a video was released featuring comments from Wataru Kuriyama who states:

I’m Wataru Kuriyama, and I’ll be playing Ryuga Dogai in GARO: Hagane o Tsugu Mono. This is the newest title in the GARO series, and it will begin airing in January 2024. It’s been five years, but I’m back thanks to everyone’s support. Thank you so much. I’m really happy to be back as Ryuga, and I’m also looking forward to the broadcast. I hope you can wait till then. Once again, GARO: Hagane o Tsugu Mono begins airing in January 2024. Look forward to it!

An additional comment came from producer Aya Tanaka who says

Creating GARO is bringing about the birth of something new. We’ve taken “GARO-ism,” people’s love of the series, to come up with a new story around Ryuga Dogai. From the action to the modeling and casting, we’ve created action entertainment that’s never been seen before thanks to the collective efforts of our amazing staff and cast members. GARO: Hagane o Tsugu Mono will air from January to March of 2024 on TOKYO MX and BS Nippon Television.
