Power Rangers Actor Jason David Frank Dead At 49

The actor who played Tommy Oliver in the original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers series has passed away

Fans across the world are mourning the passing of Power Rangers actor Jason David Frank over the weekend. Over the course of Saturday night and early Sunday morning, news began to roll in that the 49 year-old actor had died from various outlets. Actor Walter Jones, who played Zach in the original Power Rangers series, took to Instagram to say:

“Can’t believe it…. RIP Jason David Frank??. My heart is sad to have lost another member of our special family”

A representative has confirmed to TMZ and other news outlets that the news was legitimate, although an official statement has yet to be released.

Frank made his debut in the cast of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers in 1993 as Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger and sixth member of the team. Despite the counterpart character dying in the source footage from Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Tommy would continue on as the Green Ranger, then later go on to become the White Ranger and leader of the team for the next 3 seasons through Power Rangers Zeo and Power Rangers Turbo. He then returned in the fan-favorite episode “Forever Red” during the run of Power Rangers Wild Force. In 2004, the actor returned to the role and became the mentor to a new team in Power Rangers Dino Thunder and returned for special episodes in Power Rangers Super Megaforce and Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel. In more recent years, an alternate universe version of Tommy calling himself Lord Drakkon had gained massive popularity in the Power Rangers comic books and other subsequent media appearances.

Frank is survived by his four children. We at The Tokusatsu Network send our condolences to his friends and family.
