Arrow Video announced the Yokai Monsters Collection Blu-ray to be released this October.
Swiftly following their recent release of the Daimajin Trilogy at the end of July, Arrow Video announced that they will release a limited edition Yokai Monsters blu-ray boxset this October. Comprised of the original Yokai Monsters Trilogy and Takashi Miike’s The Great Yokai War. All four films boast high definition (1080p) presentations with uncompressed Japanese audio and optional English subtitles. The second film Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare uses a 1080p downscale of the film’s recent 4k restoration. Whilst The Great Yokai War features an English dub and an audio commentary by Japanese cinema expert Tom Mes.
The set is comprised of two blu-ray cases. The first featuring two discs with the original trilogy. Disc one features Yokai Monsters: 100 Monsters, trailers, an image gallery, and a documentary titled ‘Hiding in Plain Sight‘ aiming to introduce yokai to Western audiences. Disc two features Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare and Along with the Ghosts, along with their theatrical trailers and image galleries. Meanwhile, the second case features The Great Yokai War, a previously mentioned commentary, archived interviews with cast and crew, short films, recordings of promotional events, a documentary about the film’s star Ryunosuki Kamiki, the theatrical trailer, and finally an image gallery for the film
This limited edition boxset also features a 60-page booklet with writings by Stuart Galbraith IV, Raffael Coronelli, and artist Jolyon Yates. Additionally, postcards featuring new artwork for each film, and a foldout “yokai guide” poster artwork illustrated by Jolyon Yates are also included.
Arrow Video’s Yokai Monsters Collection is currently up for pre-order at a recommended retail price of £59.99 in the UK (roughly $83 USD). The set will release October 8, 2021.
