Masahiro Inoue Talks About Kamen Rider Decade

Masahiro Inoue, who portrayed Tsukasa Kadoya in Kamen Rider Decade, talks about the show in a Cinema-Today interview.

Masahiro Inoue has been reprising his role as Tsukasa Kadoya/Kamen Rider Decade for more than ten years now. He last played his character in the Kamen Rider Zi-O series before appearing in the latest spin-offs alongside Kamen Rider Zi-O. Here are some highlights from the interview in Cinema Today.

For the first time since in a long time, Inoue believes that Tsukasa’s journey has reached its end.

It is an honor being able to reprise my role as Tsukasa even in the Reiwa era. I am honestly very happy that I am called upon for this role. As a Heisei Anniversary Rider, I’m happy to be able to play a Rider once again… Every time I come back, I tell myself that this my time as a Kamen Rider is over. However, this time it’s special. I believe that Decade’s story has reached its conclusion

Decade’s “revivals” are all decided by the Producer Shinichiro Shirakura.

If Shirakura needs Tsukasa to come back he will come back. However, if he says it’s the end, then it’s the end.

When asked about how he felt when he first saw Decade’s design, he admitted feeling indifferent as the Heisei Riders before him had cool designs.

A magenta Kamen Rider seemed insane to me. I was like… is this right? All the Heisei Riders before Decade looked cool. I felt conflicted about his design as a Kamen Rider.

Likewise, in the new spin-off, RIDER TIME Kamen Rider Zi-O vs Kamen Rider Decade: The Seven Zi-Os, Kamen Rider Decade will obtain a new form called Complete Form 21. Inoue does admit that he felt apprehensive when he saw the new form, similar to how he felt when he saw Decade’s design years ago.

I heard that Decade was going to have a new form. I felt the same way I did back then. I asked myself “is this Kamen Rider okay?” Maybe I’ll accept it but I wonder if the day where I’ll think it looks cool will ever come. Right now I feel indifferent about the design.

Additionally, Inoue also talks about the often said “Damn you, Decade” catchphrase. He jokes that he feels conflicted about it being the showing of affection. He is really happy to hear fans say “so this is the world of ~~~” whenever they walk into a new place.
