Tokusatsu Classic Super Robot Red Baron Receives Blu-Ray Release

The 1970s tokusatsu classic Super Robot Red Baron will receive its first Japanese Blu-ray release January 29, 2021.

The classic tokusatsu giant robot hero series Super Robot Red Baron will receive its first Japanese Blu-ray release on January 29, 2021, from TC Entertainment.

The show, which aired from 1973-1974, starred Yosuke Okada as Ken Kurenai, a member of the Secret Science Investigation (SSI) who pilots the giant robot Red Baron against the Iron Masked Party and their army of stolen robots from across the world. A sequel series, Super Robot Mach Baron, was produced 1974, as well as an anime remake, Red Baron, in 1994.

Super Robot Red Baron will be fully remastered in HD and include all 39 episodes of the show. The Blu-ray, which is the 36th volume in the Reviving Hero Library, will be available for 28,000 yen (plus tax).

RED BARON was previously released on Blu-ray in 2017 by Humming (Bird). The series was also released on DVD in North America back in 2008 by BCI/Eclipse and is still available in a budget set from Mill Creek. There were three entries in the “Baron Series,” MACH BARON (1974) and GANBARON (1977), but they are narratively unrelated. I’m sure the upcoming TC/Bestfield release will be an upgrade from the previous Blu-ray issue of RED BARON.

Addendum: My bad. There was an even *earlier* Blu-ray release of RED BARON, making this upcoming TC Entertainment set the THIRD time the series has been released on Blu-ray. The earliest Blu-ray set was issued in 2015 by Victor Entertainment. You can search for these earlier releases on Amazon Japan. My apologies.
