Kamen Rider-Inspired Spider-Man Suit Announced For Game Remaster
Insomniac Games has announced Spider-Man’s return to tokusatsu with the Arachnid Rider suit coming to the upcoming video game remaster for PlayStation 5.
Marvel’s Spider-Man from developer Insomniac Games is getting an upgrade bundled with the Ultimate Edition of Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 5, and it comes with a nod to Kamen Rider. Today, Insomniac revealed via Twitter two of the new suit designs added in Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered: the Armored Advanced suit, and the Arachnid Rider suit.

The Arachnid Rider appears to be a homage to Kamen Rider in both name and design which features large armor pieces worn over a base suit. Additionally, the suit’s helmet features horns like those often found in Kamen Rider designs like Kamen Rider Kuuga or Kabuto. Further evidence to suggest the suit is inspired by tokusatsu is Insomniac Games retweeting an article from Polygon in which this very connection is drawn.

Polygon: “Spider-Man adds three new ‘amazing’ costumes for its PlayStation 5 remaster, including a bright, tokusatsu inspired getup.”
Notably, Spider-Man starred in a 1978 tokusatsu series made by Toei in which he operated a giant robot called Leopardon. The success of Leopardon led Toei to include robots in every Super Sentai show from then on. This version of Spider-Man remains canon in the Marvel multiverse to this day, having appeared in the Spider-Verse arc in the comics. The director of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse also previously teased the inclusion of Toei’s Spider-Man in the movie’s sequel. This tokusatsu version of Spider-Man features notably thin eyes on his mask, and this design element appears to be present in the Arachnid Rider Suit.
Insomniac Games previously announced the first new suit design being added into the remaster with the Amazing Suit faithfully recreating Peter Parker’s suit from 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man movie. With today’s announcement, all three new suits have been announced. Fans of the game who already invested in the PlayStation 4 original version will get access to these three new suits later on, according to Insomniac on Twitter:
Yes, we will be added the 3 new suits to the original PS4 game as a free update.
Timing for release of that update is TBD.
