Shin Ultraman Character Design Unveiled at Tsuburaya Convention 2019
First look at the design as well as the logo for the upcoming Tsuburaya produced movie
Fresh from the first-ever Tsuburaya Convention 2019 comes new info regarding the title and look of the upcoming big budget adaptation of Ultraman. Unveiled during the opening ceremonies for the convention, the film is now titled SHIN ULTRAMAN – Fantasy Tokusatsu Film. Along with the title and logo for the film came the reveal of the new sleek and slender design for Ultraman. The look of Ultraman is said to be in line with the original art by artist Tohl Narita with the most noticeable change to the design being the absence of the iconic color timer and eye holes. Hideaki Anno, who is providing the screenplay, stated this look was designed to get back to the beauty of the original design while incorporating the body shape of original suit actor Bin Furuya.
Originally announced in July, SHIN ULTRAMAN will be a joint venture between Tsuburaya Productions, Toho Studios, and Studio Khara. The movie will mark the second collaboration between director Shinji Higuchi and Anno, who had previously worked on the critically acclaimed Shin Godzilla in 2016. Actor Saito Takumi will play the main character who will become Ultraman.
No new information has been released surrounding the plot of the film. SHIN ULTRAMAN will be distributed by Toho in 2021.
