Kamen Rider Build’s Atsuhiro Inukai Showcases Promise with a Future in Dramas

With his rise to fame from Kamen Rider Build, Atsuhiro Inukai’s future in acting is beginning to expand.

After having wrapped up Kamen Rider Build, Atsuhiro Inukai has been appearing in television dramas such as Weakest Beast starring Yui Aragaki, and will also appear in an upcoming morning television drama called Natsuzora starring Suzu Hirose. As far as morning dramas go, many notable actors actually come from the Kamen Rider family such as Sota Fukushi and Ryouma Takeuchi, whom the latter was named recently as GQ Man of the Year last year.

Atsuhiro Inukai was born on June 13, 1994, in Tokushima Prefecture. He won the Junon Super Boy contest, won the Grand Prix in 2012, and made his first drama debut in 2014. Before he starred in Kamen Rider Build as Genius Physicist Kiryu Sento, he appeared in many drama series including Super Salaryman Saenai-Shi directed by Yuichi Fukuda, who directed the live action Gintama film. Inukai, who was offered many drama roles even as a newcomer and has enough achievements to say so, was able to display a steady performance even in Kamen Rider Build. Following that series, Inukai portrays a no-good employee working under Yui Aragaki’s character Akira Shinkai, a completely different character from a hero of justice.

Inukai’s charm as an actor, to put simply, lies within his smile as well as his acting range that just doesn’t fit in the “pretty boy box.” Kyouko Matsumoto, the casting director of Weakest Beast, said she chose Inukai because she didn’t want to imprison his pretty boy framework. In another interview, Inukai himself said that he is often told “You’re a Kamen Rider, for better or for worst. I’ve wanted to maintain that impression so I was happy that I had a chance to portray someone like this (no-good employee). Next time, I want to portray someone that kids will hate.”

Natsuzora will be Inukai’s very first-morning drama. The setting, time period, and the entire world will be completely different from Kamen Rider Build, but his experience in that series will certainly be very helpful. He will portray Youhei Yamada talented painter and the eldest son of a family of farmers, who obtains a scholarship and studies in an Art School. Other grants and scholarships, such as scholarships for law school, are available too. Tenyo Yamada, who is Youhei’s younger brother and painter himself, will be portrayed by Ryo Yoshizawa, who also starred as Ryuusei Sakuta in Kamen Rider Fourze back in 2011.
