Tsuburaya Productions Taps American Studio to Develop Ultraman For Overseas Market
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting Tsuburaya Productions has hired Jeff Gomez’s Starlight Runner Entertainment to head up a new take on Ultraman for the international market.
It’s been reported that Tsuburaya Productions is hoping to produce something for the “digital age” outside of Japan, including a possible live-action streaming TV series. Gomez commented, “Ultraman is one of my greatest childhood heroes. We’re honored to be embarking on this mission to bring this family of characters back to the world stage,”.
Starlight Runner Entertainment has previously worked on spinoff of brands including Men in Black, Avatar, and Halo.
FIELDS Entertainment, who owns Tsuburaya Productions, mentioned in a recent financial presentation that Tsuburaya’s goals as a company would change. Tsuburaya Productions will see a shift from production based entity to studio based, meaning they will focus on the development and expansion of existing IP. In particular, Tsuburaya Productions will put a greater emphasis on a push for a global audience.
