Bandai Namco Acquires Bluefin Company
Bandai gains controlling stake in company that distributes SH Figuarts to North America.
Earlier this week, Bandai Namco Holdings announced that the company now has a controlling stake in Nippon Imports, LLC, which operates under the more recognizable brand name Bluefin. The acquisition of the 80% stake in the company is said to be motivated by Bandai’s desire to strengthen and speed up merchandise sales in North America.
Bluefin is known for their distribution of hobby and action figure lines at stores and conventions across the US. This would include the distribution of collectibles from Tamashii Nations, which carries toy lines like SH Figuarts which includes many Kamen Rider, Ultraman and Dragon Ball Z figures, Gundam model kits, the Robot Damashii line, and more. Earlier this year, Bandai of America had their relationship with Saban brands in regards to the Power Rangers franchise come to an end, after which Hasbro was brought on as the main producer and distributor for the franchise.
Bandai stated that within the coming month, they will establish a new subsidiary called Bandai Namco Collectibles that will still operate under the Bluefin name, and will start up operations officially in January 2019.
