Ultraman Gaia’s Star: I Would Like to Make More Gaia
An event celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 1998 TV series Ultraman Gaia took place featuring original cast and crew.
The event was held at Sunshine City in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district as part of the Ultraman Festival 2018 festival series. During the event, Takeshi Yoshioka, who played Gamu / Ultraman Gaia, talked about his interest in a new Ultraman Gaia feature saying “I think it would be great if we could make a new one,”.
The talk show portion of the event also featured Hassei Takano (Kamen Rider Ryuki), who played Hiroya Fujimiya / Ultraman Agul, Maria Theresa Gow (Kamen Rider W), Hiroyuki Watanabe (GARO) who played Captain Ishimuro as well as chief script writer Chiaki Konaka. Watanabe mentioned how happy he was to be there and hoped to return for the 30th or 40th anniversary, saying he believes Gaia has the potential to continue being popular.
During the event, a special screening of the show’s final episode “Earth is Ultraman’s Star”, was held. The episode was selected by fans as the most popular episode via a preliminary questionnaire. The cast and crew provided their own live commentary to the episode.
Watanabe revealed that the show wasn’t written just for children and that it dared to captivate adults in the audience as well.
It was also revealed that Ultraman Gaia would be streamed via Tsuburaya’s official YouTube channel beginning September 5th.
