Studio Trigger Announces Gridman Anime
Studio Trigger announced Gridman, a new anime from the director of their 2015 short, today at Anime Expo.
Two years ago, Akira Amemiya (Inferno Cop) directed a short for the Japan Animator Expo based on Tsuburaya Productions’ Denko Chojin Gridman, a giant hero series from the early 90s that was adapted in the States as Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. The short was produced by Studio Trigger, the company behind Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill.
The original Gridman told the story of a group of kids who built their own supercomputer that creates Gridman, a giant warrior tasked with protecting the computer world. The JAE short depicted the original show’s human antagonist Takeshi Todo 22 years later as he becomes a hero in his own right.
According to Anime News Network, the upcoming show will be unrelated to the original story.
