NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING G1 SPECIAL in USA: Night 2 Results

During the second night of the New Japan Pro Wrestling G1 Special in the USA, the first IWGP United States Champion was crowned.

The first IWGP United States Champion is crowned before a sold-out crowd of roughly 3,000 attendees at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, Ca.

Match 1:

Jushin “Thunder” Lyger, Kushida and David Finlay d. Yoshitatsu and The Tempura Boys (Sho Tanaka and Yohei Komatsu)  via Submission.

Match 2:

Semi Finals IWGP United States Championship

Kenny Omega d. Jay Lethal via pinfall.

Match 3:

Semi Finals IWGP United States Championship

Tomohiro Ishii d. Zach Sabre Jr via pinfall.

Match 4:

Dragon Lee, Jay White, Juice Robinson, Voldar Jr and Titan d. Los Ingobernables de Japon (Hiromu Takahashi, Seiya Sanada, EVIL, Bushi and Tetsuya Naito) when White pinned Bushi.

Match 5:

The Bullet Club – Guerillas of Destiny (Tanga Roa and Tama Tongo) and Hangman Page (w/Haku and Chase Owens) d. War Machine (Ray Rowe/Hansen) and Michael Elgin when Hangman Page pinned Ray Rowe.

Match 6:

IWGP Jr Heavyweight Tag Team Title Match

The Young Bucks (c) d. Roppongi Vice to retain their titles.

Match 7:

Bullet Club (Marty Scurll, Yujiro Takahashi, Bad Luck Fale and Cody) w/Brandi Rhodes d. Chaos (Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe) w/Gedo when Cody pinned Osprey.

Match 8:

IWGP Intercontinental Title

Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) d. Billy Gunn by pinfall to retain the title.

Match 9:

Finals IWGP United States Championship

Kenny Omega d. Tomohiro Ishii by pinfall to become the first IWGP US Champion.

Notes:

• Roppongi Vice split up as a tag team following their loss to the Young Bucks
• Bullet Club teased a surprise but none happened
• New Japan announced they will return for another show in 2018, preferably in a bigger arena.  Kenny Omega vowed to fill a 20,000 plus seat arena next year
• The second night was far better both crowd and wrestling wise.
• New Japan was under stocked in both merchandise and cashiers. Having only 1 for the entire arena. Most merchandise was sold out by the end of night 1.  End of night 2 a handful of shirts and event books were all that remained.
• Bushiroad, New Japan’s owner, held a show next door as well.  The card game they produce was the draw.  Seems that Anime Expo sucked the life from it though.
• Long Beach has a great arena on the Convention Center property, hopefully, it will be considered next year as the hall used wasn’t exactly built for watching a live show.
