Tamashii Nations 2016 Roundup: Other S.H.Figuarts and Figuarts ZERO
Tamashii Nations’ branding extends well past the world of tokusatsu. There were plenty of anime and movie franchises hitting brands like S.H. Figuarts and Figuarts ZERO.
An announcement right out of the gate that surprised virtually everyone was S.H. Figuarts releases of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin of WWE fame. Perhaps with the success of their Kinnikuman line, Bandai thought it was time to tap into the world of real wrestling.
Jumping along to the world of comics, Bandai is offering DC fans a chance to own amazing S.H. Figuarts renditions of Harley Quinn and The Joker straight from the upcoming Suicide Squad film. Both, unfortunately, have no current release date.
On the Marvel side of things, Bandai shows off their upcoming Tamashii Web Exclusive of Black Panther, as well as their just announced Tony Stark S.H. Figuarts release, straight from the scenes of Iron Man 3. Black Panther will ship via Tamashii Web in November 2016, while Tony Stark will hit shelves at retail in October 2016.
Rounding off the world of live action is the newest entry in the Star Wars S.H. Figuarts line as Obi Wan Kenobi returns to store shelves. This time around, Obi Wan will be sporting his look seen in Episode II: Attack of the Clones. The figure will hit shelves across Japan in November 2016.
The world of Dragon Ball related S.H. Figuarts added another figure to the roster with the recent announcement of Super Saiyan Vegeta. Fans will know that this character was already released in the past, but this version of the figure sports an all new mold that more closely resembles his on screen counterpart. The Ranma 1/2 line will also see the release of Akane Tendou, the main female protagonist of the hit manga and anime series.
The S.H. Figuarts Go! Princess Precure series recently began with preorders for S.H. Figuarts Cure Flora, the main character of the series. With Cure Twinkle having just gone up for pre-order on Tamashii Web, it’s no surprise that the third main member of the team, Cure Mermaid made her debut at Tamashii Features. Cure Mermaid looks to include the Royal Fairies Pafu and Aroma. With Cure Twinkle’s release not until January 2017, the release of Cure Mermaid is most likely a little ways away.
While no new S.H. Figuarts releases were announced for the Sailor Moon franchises, the continuing Figuarts ZERO releases of the Sailor Moon Crystal cast were shown on the Tamashii Features’ floor. Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus are both new releases shown at the event, completing the main cast of five. Sailor Jupiter is set as a Tamashii Web Exclusive release for December 2016, while Sailor Venus’ release remains to be seen.
Active Raid is a new original anime that looks at a world where police are given robotic suits in order to fight criminals that wield their own robotic suits. Fans of the series will be excited to know that the series is set to be the newest anime to receive S.H. Figuarts releases. The Oscar I Elf Sigma and Oscar II Strike Interceptor were both shown as new S.H. Figuarts release figures in both their normal forms (the white based forms), as well as their “Sublimation Structure Operation Ver.” (the black based forms). While the SSO Versions have no release date, the normal Strike Interceptor is set for release in November 2016 with the Elf Sigma right behind in December 2016.
