Hiroaki Iwanaga Reprises Guts Role in New Berserk Anime

Iwanaga returns to play the lead in a new Berserk TV anime.

Hiroaki Iwanaga is a fan-favorite tokusatsu actor who has played a Kamen Rider, a Tomica Hero, and a Space Sheriff. Iwanaga first played Eiji Ishiguro/R5 in Tomica Hero: Rescue Force and Fire, then the secondary Rider Akira Date/Kamen Rider Birth in Kamen Rider OOO, and finally Shu Karasuma/Space Sheriff Shaider in Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie and its V-Cinema sequels.

In the realm of anime Iwanaga plays Guts, the lead character in Kentarou Miura’s Berserk. Iwanaga began playing Guts in the Berserk: The Golden Age Arc trilogy of films, The Egg of the King, The Battle for Doldrey, and The Advent. He will return to the character in this year’s TV anime, simply titled Berserk, which will depict Guts as the “Black Swordsman,” a stage in the character’s life that has not previously been seen in an animated adaptation.
