Gaim/ToQger Films Open at #4
Kamen Rider Gaim: The Great Soccer Battle! The Golden Fruit Cup! and Ressha Sentai ToQger: Galaxy Line SOS were released this weekend in 309 theaters across Japan and opened at #4.
138,528 tickets were sold across Saturday and Sunday for the yearly films involving the latest Sentai and Rider heroes. The Gaim film featured guest stars from the J-League soccer association as well as the appearance of Kataoka Ainosuke, of kabuki fame, in the role of Kamen Rider Mars. The double bill feature pulled in an estimated 1,698,358 yen (or roughly $1,672,906) over the weekend.
Other films in the top five include Pokemon the Movie XY: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction at #1 in its first weekend with 3,932,594 (roughly $3,873,659) yen in box office revenue. Disney’s Maleficent was at #2 as it crossed $30 million in Japan. Opening at #3 was the latest Studio Ghibili film, When Marnie Was There, which made 3,788,655 yen or roughly $3,731,825. Opening at #5 was Edge of Tomorrow, the film based on the Japanese light novel All You Need is Kill. Also in the top ten was Say I Love You, based on Kanae Hazuki’s manga. The film, starring Kamen Rider Fourze’s Souta Fukushi, dropped to #6 in its second weekend after opening at #2.
