Hiroshi Watari, Sharivan, Talks About Sharivan Reboot Movie

Since Space Sheriff Sharivan & Shaider Next Generation movies finished filming, the original Sharivan, Hiroshi Watari, who will reprise his role as the titular character in a mentor capacity, has been posting about his time working on the new movie.

Watari’s first blog post after the initial movie announcement read:

The filming of Space Sheriff Sharivan and Shaider is hard work, delayed but on schedule. Finally Den Iga, the character from the past, will revive and I meet again with my partner Sharivan after 31 years! I can show you only this (pictured above) at the moment, sorry.He had a bit of a smaller face when I met him again. His body is shiny and sparkling. However, the impression hasn’t changed since the very first time I saw him – “He looks warm, burly and strong!” I wonder if Den Iga will have the same impression as before when you see him. I will do my best to live up to your expectations. Alright, let’s “Sekisha” again after 31 years. Space Sheriff fans, wait until the 10th of October, reservations for the DVD have already started. The special limited “Sekisha” and “Shouketsu” editions will surely be sold out!”

Watari followed with this blog post announcing that filming was over and highlighting fun photos while on set.

So it’s a wrap for the Space Sheriff Sharivan and Shaider movies. I had a really fun and nostalgic time during this 3-week filming period. I want to thank both staff and cast.Now onto dubbing work, I will do my best all the way through.

Many members of the younger cast were people I had worked with in the past, so it was not awkward at all. I was in Secret Undercover Agent HONEY & BUNNY with Haruna Yabuki and in Assassin with Ryoma Baba. As for Riki Miura, it’s been since I had a drink with him in Kakumei Station.

I met Koichi Sakamoto 18 years ago in Los Angeles, when I visited the Power Rangers set. He had very long hair down to his waist, from behind you could mistake him for a woman. He’s got a much lighter hairstyle now.

We shot CGI material all night till the morning. Everyone did their best even though we were all tired. I think we are all be proud with the final film, I think it will satisfy all the fans. If this becomes a hit, then maybe another movie or series could be greenlit, so instead of renting the DVD, get a copy for yourself as a little treasure. There’s still a while to go till Fall yet, please wait just a little longer.

Space Sheriff Sharivan NEXT GENERATION and Space Sheriff Shaider NEXT GENERATION will be released on October 10th and November 7th respectively on DVD and Blu-Ray.
