Mill Creek Entertainment Acquires Full Ultraman Library For Global Distribution
Licensing deal covers over 1100 episodes and 20 films spanning 50 years of Tsuburaya Productions’ flagship franchise.
To celebrate Ultraman Day, Mill Creek Entertainment and Indigo Entertainment are pleased to announce the license of the full Ultraman library from Tsuburaya Productions Co., Ltd for North American home entertainment distribution. To kick off the license, Mill Creek has begun pre-orders for the first two series of the franchise, ULTRA Q and and the original ULTRAMAN series in both Blu-ray and Steelbook collection to be released on October 15, 2019 for $39.98 and $49.98 respectively. There will also be a streaming option available through the Mill Creek website. Each release will contain high definition video with DTS-HD Master Audio of the original Japanese soundtrack with English subtitles.
Barrett Evans, VP of Marketing for Mill Creek was quoted as saying “We are excited to bring the Ultraman catalog to North American audiences through a multi-faceted release model spanning Blu-ray and DVD plus various TVOD, SVOD and AVOD digital outlets. In tandem with the classic series, we will also be releasing the more recent series and films to appease fans of both classic and modern Ultraman.”
Originally airing in 1966, ULTRA Q was one of the most expensive television series ever produced in Japan and was immediately followed up by its successor, the immensely popular ULTRAMAN. Hailing from Nebula M-78, Ultraman protects the Earth from an onslaught of giant alien monsters alongside the crew of the Science Patrol armed with high-tech weapons and vehicles. The currently airing ULTRAMAN anime on Netflix is a direct sequel to the series, albeit in an alternate timeline.
