Singer Ichiro Mizuki Diagnosed With Lung Cancer
The legendary anime and tokusatsu opening singer discloses cancer diagnosis
At the end of July, singer Ichiro Mizuki revealed that he has been diagnosed with lung cancer along with lymph node and brain metastasis. This news regarding his health comes in addition to having fought vocal chord paralysis in 2021. Mizuki is receiving therapy for his voice and motor functions and had surgery this past month to remove the growth in his lungs. Currently the chemotherapy is working and Mizuki is focusing on getting in better health and planning his 50th anniversary celebration as a singer. On his Twitter account on Tuesday, July 26, the 74-year-old Mizuki stated:
I will continue to aim to be active throughout my life, so please support me.
For five decades, Mizuki has performed some of the most memorable anime and tokusatsu theme openings, including for Kamen Rider X, Kamen Rider Stronger, New Kamen Rider, and Kamen Rider BLACK RX. In 2000, Mizuki became the founder of the vocal supergroup JAM Project which has gone on to do many of the openings for the GARO franchise.
