Shin Ultraman Outperforms Shin Godzilla’s 3-Day Opening
The newly released Shin Ultraman has outdone Shin Godzilla‘s 3-day opening at box offices in Japan.
Following much anticipation, Shinji Higuchi’s Shin Ultraman released across 401 Japanese theatres on Friday, May 13. In just three days the film has outdone all previous theatrically released Ultraman films at the box office and is currently outperforming Shin Godzilla from 2016.
Shin Ultraman has collected 993,410,050 yen across the 641,802 tickets sold from Friday to Sunday. Comparatively, Shin Godzilla, Shinji Higuchi and writer Hideaki Anno’s previous collaborative work, accumulated approximately 825 million yen within it’s first three days, and 2008’s Superior 8 Ultra Brothers had a box office total of 838 million yen. In addition, Shin Ultraman is currently the highest grossing live-action film from Japan in 2022.
Whether or not this current success or box office trends from Shin Godzilla will translate into a strong attendance for the following weeks is yet to be seen.
Shin Ultraman is currently showing in theaters nationwide across Japan. There have been no announced plans for an international release yet.
