Kamen Rider Zero-One’s Satsuki Nakayama Comes Out As Transgender
Kamen Rider Zero-One’s Satsuki Nakayama announces that he identifies as a transgender male and asexual.
Satsuki Nakayama, known for his role in Kamen Rider Zero-One as the Humagear Naki / Kamen Rider Naki, has announced that he identifies as a transgender male and asexual. Nakayama will also be releasing a new photo essay titled “Asexual” releasing on September 17th, 2021.
“I, Satsuki Nakayama, am transgender. I have played female roles in the past, but it’s painful to be perceived as one, so I decided that I would like to act beyond the boundaries of gender.”
Nakayama also reflected on his orientation as asexual, and his response is as followed:
“When people hear I’m transgender, they’ll ask ‘Does that mean you like woman?’ but I want to add that I’m asexual. Asexuality is a sexuality in which a person does not feel romantic or sexual desire for others.
That’s why I decided to publish this photo essay. I would be so happy if you could see me, Satsuki Nakayama, as a human being, beyond the boundaries of gender. I don’t want people to sympathize with me or understand me, but I want them to know me.
I think I’ve always been afraid of telling the people around me, because it seemed like I was forcing my ‘ideals’ on them. But I finally made up my mind to live my life in my own way, without covering up my feelings.”

Good for him. I know Japan is behind much of the west on LGBTQIA issues but hopefully people like him and Utada Hikaru coming out help move the needle on acceptance.
