SSSS.GRIDMAN Stage Play Announced
The Studio Trigger tokusatsu-inspired anime will get a stage play next year.
It was announced this week that a new stage play for SSSS.GRIDMAN will debut in 2020 entitiled SSSS.GRIDMAN SHOW 02. Currently there is no word on the cast, but more information will be forthcoming. The announcement was made on May 26 in Kawasaki City with character suits for Anti, Alexis Kerib, and Gridman being shown at the event.
Blending together elements of the tokusatsu series Denkou Choujin Gridman and its U.S. adaptation Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad, SSSS.GRIDMAN follows middle school student Yuta Hibiki, a boy with no recollection of his past. Alongside his classmates Rika and Utsumi and with the help of the Neon Genesis Junior High Students, Yuta must team up with the digital being known as Gridman to protect their city from the kaiju that threaten it. It is up to Yuta and Gridman to unravel the mystery surrounding the town and stop the source of the monsters, their popular classmate Akane who is under the influence of the evil Alexis Kerib.
The series was a collaboration between Studio Trigger and Tsuburaya Productions and debuted in fall of 2018 and ran for 12 episodes. Funimation licensed and simulcast the series in both Japanese and with an English dub, both of which can be seen on their website. Denkou Choujin Gridman can be streamed on TOKU, and Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad is available on DVD now.
