Tokusatsu April Fools 2019 Roundup
Here are some of this year’s notable April 1st gags from official tokusatsu productions – and not all of it was fake.
The official Twitter for Kamen Rider Zi-O tweeted a set of photos of Kamen Rider Ginga, a space-themed character, and posed the question “The illustrious Kamen Rider Ginga will appear in Zi-O?!” – this would later be confirmed to be true, as the DX MiraiDriver listing on Premium Bandai was updated to include the transformation item this future Rider will use.
Curiously, the tweet was tagged with #LupaPato, which is the tag used for Lupinranger VS Patranger, the previous Super Sentai series.
In 2017, a fake teaser was made for Kamen Rider Drive‘s Brain, giving him the title of Kamen Rider Brain – it was set to premiere in 2035. This year, however, the Heisei Kamen Rider 20th Twitter account tweeted a new teaser, bumping the premiere date to 2019. This included the hashtag #AprilFool?, with a notable question mark.
As it turned out, this was becoming a reality. This two-part mini-series will premiere on the Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club on April 14th then conclude the following week.
The official Facebook group for Redman: The Kaiju Hunter presented a limited edition coffee flavor:
“Introducing the newest coffee flavor to knock you awake in the morning: Dark…Roast!!!”
Premium Bandai posted a fake listing for a Complete Selection Modification edition of Kamen Rider 555‘s Auto Vajin. This would be a life-sized replica of Faiz’s bike… which transforms into a robot. The bike would go for 555,000,000 JPY, which is nearly 5 million USD. More information was set to be revealed on April 2nd…
… but instead, the link now leads to an actual CSM teaser: The voice-activated DeltaGear from Kamen Rider 555 is used by the third Rider, Kamen Rider Delta. More information will be made available on April 15th.
